VET Schools Embedding the Competency-Based Approach

On 11 January 2022, EU4Skills conducted the meeting devoted to the presentation of the development concepts of the pilot VET schools: Vinnytsia Interregional Higher Vocational School, Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Center for Vocational Education, Chernivtsi Higher Vocational School of Radio Electronics, Yuznoukrainsk Vocational Lyceum, Rivne Higher Vocational School of Restaurant Service and Trade, Higher Vocational School № 29, Lviv, Vocational and Technical School № 44 Myrhorod.

The work started in September 2021 with the elaboration of the ”Methodical recommendations for the development of the concept of implementing a competency-based approach to vocational education and training”, which was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES). All selected VET schools from pilot regions were given the opportunity to elaborate their own development concepts, embedding the competency-based approach and ideas for development for the next five years. According to the recommendations provided, VET schools’ representatives developed the main strategic ideas, priorities, and prospects of the future development, substantiated ways to solve the identified problems, identified the main changes that should be incorporated, listed the expected results and the main approaches to their achievement. As a result, seven developed concepts (one from each pilot region) and competency-based projects for implementation in 2022 were presented during the meeting. The EU4Skills will keep supporting the pilot regions in the implementation of the competency-based approach in VET development.
